Background

The FOAHK is an independent family office trade association established in November 2020. As a nonprofit consultative industry body, we represent family offices serving ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) individuals and their families on governance, legislative, and regulatory matters.

By connecting and facilitating collaboration between family offices, governments, professional parties, and other relevant industry bodies in Hong Kong and overseas, we aim to strengthen Hong Kong as the region’s family office hub, attracting and retaining investment and top talent for the industry.

Since our establishment, the FOAHK has been dedicated to fostering talent development. Through our annual family office case competition, we aim to allow students to develop a better understanding of how family offices operate, how family offices respond to higher regulatory mandates, and explore career opportunities in the family office ecosystem, including private banking, investment banking, asset management, FinTech, etc.

We strive to nurture young talent, new joiners of family offices, and the next generation of family businesses.

Program Information

Overview
FOAHK 2025 Case Competition provides an opportunity for students to gain insights into the growing family office industry and the trends in sustainable investment in Asia. Through the case competition, students are able to discover what it takes to work as a relationship manager in a multi-family office. Participants will have access to an exclusive training webinar and the opportunity to work closely with industry veterans. Shortlisted teams will receive mentorship from experts in leading banks, family offices, and asset management firms. They will also have the chance to present their ideas to seasoned industry  professionals.

Theme: All in the Family: Building a Strategic Alternative Investments Portfolio
Alternative investments, including private equity, venture capital, and other non-traditional asset classes, have gained prominence as traditional financial avenues have no longer become the sole source of growth or stability. But how does one choose what strategies, geographies, and sectors to invest in? More specifically, how might a family office choose to allocate versus an institutional investor? Students will dive deep into the world of alternative investments and family offices and gain first-hand practical knowledge as well as analytical skills essential for a career in this industry.
